The real difference
Engineered wood is a real-wood product. A layer of genuine hardwood, usually 2mm to 6mm thick, is bonded to a stable core of plywood or high-density board. You walk on, see and feel real timber, but the layered build makes it far less prone to warping than solid wood. Laminate has no real wood in the surface at all: it is a high-resolution photograph of timber, sealed under a clear wear layer, on a fibreboard core. Modern laminate prints are convincing, but the surface is plastic, not wood.

This is where the price difference earns its keep.
