Is my quote fair?
Got a quote and not sure what to make of it? Enter your project, your region and the figure to see where it sits against typical 2026 UK prices, and what to ask next.
Indicative comparison for guidance only, not advice on a specific quote. Typical ranges are supplied and fitted and exclude structural work and other extras. See how we work these out.
To judge whether an interiors quote is fair, compare it against the typical price range for that project in your region, then look at the detail. As a UK guide for 2026, supplied and fitted, a kitchen typically runs about £6,000 to £60,000 across budget to high end, a bathroom about £4,000 to £25,000, and fitted wardrobes about £1,500 to £15,000, before you adjust for region: London adds roughly 25 to 40 percent and the North, Scotland and Wales come in 10 to 20 percent lower. A fair quote sits within that adjusted range, is itemised, and is clearly scoped. A figure well above the range is not automatically wrong, but ask what it includes that others do not; one well below deserves the same scrutiny, because it usually signals a thinner specification or excluded trades. Whatever the number, get two or three itemised quotes for the same written brief so you are comparing like for like. What to do with the answer
The check tells you roughly where your figure sits; the detail tells you whether it is fair. Whatever the result, ask for the quote itemised into labour, materials and fittings, get the scope and payment stages in writing, and compare two or three quotes for the same brief. If the figure looks off in either direction, our guide to red flags in a quote sets out exactly what to look for, and the cost calculator helps you set a budget before the quotes come in.

How can I tell if a quote is fair?
Compare it against the typical price range for that project in your region, then judge it on detail, not just the headline figure. A fair quote is itemised (labour, materials and fittings shown separately), clearly scoped, and sits within the expected range. A quote well above the range is not automatically wrong, but ask what it includes that others do not; one well below deserves the same scrutiny, because it often means a thinner specification or excluded trades.
My quote is much higher than the typical range, is that bad?
Not necessarily. A higher quote can reflect a bigger or more complex job, a higher specification, moving services or structural work, or simply a busier, more in-demand firm. The thing to do is ask what is included that pushes it up, and compare it line-by-line against one or two others for the same written brief, so you are comparing like for like.
My quote is much lower than the typical range, should I be worried?
Be cautious. A quote well below the going rate often means something is missing: cheaper materials are assumed, the scope is thinner, or trades you will still need have been left out. Check it is fully itemised, ask what is excluded, and confirm insurance and references before you commit. The cheapest quote is only a bargain if it covers the same work.
